Why We Walked Away (And What We’re Building Instead)

At some point, the hustle stopped making sense. The long days away from family, the financial pressure, the constant pull to do more, make more, be more… it felt like we were building a life we didn’t even want to live in.

So we stopped.

Not overnight. Not without fear. But one small choice at a time, we started walking away from the noise and toward something quieter, slower, and more honest.

We Were Exhausted, Not Just Physically — But Spiritually

Work hours were long. Quality time was short. Peace felt like a luxury we couldn’t afford. Day after day we would talk about how we wish life was different, how we wanted to travel, how the PTO would never get approved and how I didn’t make enough money to pay for all the things we wanted to do even if the PTO was magically approved. My work schedule was rigid. Every second of my workday, every click of my mouse, stroke of my keyboard, every syllable that came out of my mouth was tracked. Every single aspect of what I did was a metric. There was no other way around it. I’m vested in the company. This is how life had to be. Ultimately I would end the conversation with “it is what it is”.

But deep down, we knew that life wasn’t meant to be a treadmill, where at the same times on the same days I hop on and do it over and over, and what was my reward? Increased speed and elevation. Tighter compliance, more control, less opportunity to succeed. Month after month, quarter after quarter, I could’ve been the top performer, but when you’re great at your job, expectations grow. That 10/10 effort is now seen as a 7/10 effort. Those top tier numbers are now bottom tier numbers. It was an endless cycle.

So we asked a hard question:

What would life look like if we started living on purpose and not on autopilot?

What Is The Raines Method?

The Raines Method was born out of that question.

It’s not a program. Not a system. Just a path we’re creating, one small, intentional step at a time.

For us, it looks like:

  • Saying no to the unnecessary. That might look a lot different to you than us, but I know a lot of us don’t need half a dozen amazon deliveries each week.
  • Saying yes to family dinner, slow mornings, and Sabbath rest.
  • Looking for ways to simplify our lives and minimize distractions.
  • Getting the most out of every dollar not just to be frugal, but to be free.

We’re still figuring it out. We don’t have it all together, but every time we lean into gratitude, slow down, and make space for what really matters, life gets lighter.

Why We Started This Blog

This blog exists to share what’s helping us live better, not bigger.

You’ll find:

  • Honest posts about the rhythms we’re building
  • Tools we actually use to make life simpler
  • Budgeting ideas that help us buy back our time
  • Encouragement to live more rooted and less rushed

And if you’re tired too, tired of chasing, tired of noise, tired of pressure, maybe this is the reset you didn’t know you needed. Or maybe you didn’t even know it existed!

Want to Reset With Us?

We created a FREE 7-Day Gratitude & Wellness Reset to help you slow down, reset your habits, and reconnect with what matters one small step at a time, and I mean one really small step at a time. If you’re ambitious then you can take some larger steps too when you’re ready.

Here’s to choosing peace over pressure, presence over performance, and freedom over burnout.
We’re so glad you’re here.
